Chook Me!

How much of the US hated the Dixie Chicks after their comments in 2003?

And if they were considered Traitors for not supporting their President then, what does that say about allot of Republicans now?

Public Comments

  1. well a few weeks ago they were traitors
  2. LOL, good question. You get a star for this one.
  3. I never liked them.
  4. not me and i still think those who did were warped and sick cause its freedom of speech first amendment right
  5. Everyone on the extreme right.
  6. I never thought they were traitors. I also never liked their music.
  7. good point
  8. Hate (not past tense) not just the fact that they are traitors but because they suck. Lol
  9. Speaking out against your country onstage in a foreign nation is considerably different than a citizen offering an opposing view of a politician.
  10. Your an Idiot tell it like it was .........they were chastised for speaking badly about our president in a foreign country you dummy
  11. I hated the way they acted in foreign countries dissing the president of the united states. They said they were embarrassed to be american. THEN LEAVE!!!! I am a rush limbaugh republican and I would never say that, especially in a foreign land, even though I disagree with many of OBAMA's positions! HOW DARE THEY!
  12. i don't hate them it's not traitorous to exercise free speech
  13. Not me. I thought it took a lot of courage to publicly say what they did and endure the repercussions of that statement. They were right. As for what that says about the people that hated the Dixie Chicks but say that now about our new President.... those 2 dots aren't too hard to connect are they? Pure and simple hypocrisy.
  14. their sales tanked. personally, I haven't listened to any thing of theirs since their insulting comments.
  15. I did not hate them during that period of time, however I would turn away from their music when it came on the radio, as I do to this day. They are not traitors. However, Americans can view them in any way they want, and act on those views. If that means not buying their music, they can do that. If it means voicing their opinion of opposition, they can do that as well. Have you seen any Republicans going overseas and telling huge crowds of people there for a concert that you are ashamed to live in the home state of the President? The comment is inappropriate no matter who is saying it. Also, why are so many supporters of Obama or otherwise Democrats complaining about perceived issues with Republicans? Just as when Republicans were in power and Democrats would voice opposition, so too will Republicans when the roles are reversed. I happen to think that much of the criticism made by Republicans is valid.
  16. Well known American representatives that go abroad should expect the kind of blacklash when they insult their president publicly. What are Republicans saying? That they don't like the stimulus bill? They can go sing at a concert and say that. No one will be offended.
  17. What does it say? I speak with my cash and will not but their CDs. Never said they couldn't say that. Never called them traitors either. You seem to not be able to tell the differece no matter who is talking..
  18. don't blame I voted for Perot
  19. THe dixie duds were in another country trashing our president the Republicans are doing their job by confronting the waste of public tax money that will only have ill effects on our country. If you don`t believe me check the polls to see that the majority of the country is against this Spendage plan that the Dems are trying to rush into law before everyone can see how bad it is.
  20. I live in Texas and I STILL barely hear their songs... in fact, I can't remember the last time I heard one of their songs on the radio... and I know for a FACT that in Lubbock (Natalie's hometown) they STILL do not play their songs... and the Maines family is pretty predominate in that city (Her aunt is a news anchor for the NBC affiliate and her dad is in a famous, at least in the area anyway, band there). I personally do not hate them or their music as I was a big fan (and I wanted to be like Martie at the time)... I didn't throw away the CD's like most did, but I never bought another one.... and it wasn't what they said it was the how, why and where....
  21. It was their base fans that hated them because they went to Britain and proclaimed that they were ashamed of Bush. So their FANS boycotted them and stopped listening to them. Their FANS. Tell me something - do you seriously think that if Beyonce or Jay-Z or Lil Weezy or Young Jeezy or Boweezy or whatever the heck they're called came out and said that they were ashamed of Barack Obama, that they wouldn't see their fans getting belligerently angry? Trust me. If that's not a good enough reason, country music fans usually can rely on their idols in the industry to either not get involved in anything political or are conservative Republicans. Usually it's just going overseas and performing with USO for the troops. But when someone that fans ADORED for years and bought their music because it was good comes out and goes with Hollywood and bashes Bush for no reason, then yes they got pissed.
  22. The only people who hated the Dixie Chicks were those who listen to country music. Outside of that, they were fine. As any right-thinking conservative will tell you, the difference is that the Dixie Chicks and people like them hate America. On the other hand, conservatives love America, which is why they hate Obama and want him to fail. Can't explain it. That's just how they see the difference.
  23. Prior to 2003, I was pretty much unaware of them. I did enjoy the documentary "Shut Up and Sing" and had more empathy towards them. I'm still not really into their style of music though. Would I call them traitors? Absolutely not!
  24. Not an apt comparison. For the record, I didn't hate (or particularly like) the Dixie Chicks before or after their comments. I didn't like their comments, but it's a free country, and I don't think their comments necessarily made them traitors. That said, there's a difference between disagreeing with the president on a domestic matter and siding with the enemy during wartime. Some people felt that the Dixie Chicks were siding with the enemy. If someone sides with the enemy during wartime, then they are, by definition, traitors. No Republican has ever accused anyone of being a traitor for disagreeing about the budget. (However, one Democrat has recently said it's patriotic to pay taxes. So I guess it's unpatriotic to want to pay less to the government? By extension, does Mr. Biden consider those who support lower taxes traitors?)
  25. I've never seen one, what do they look like? I guess I don't get that channel.
  26. patriots is what i call them. go chicks.
