Are raw chicken necks okay to feed my maltese? How often should I give one for cleaning teeth?
My local pet store sells bags of frozen raw chicken necks, I'm wondering if they're a good thing to feed my dog so her teeth get cleaned. Also, I've seen pig tails in the grocery store, are they good too? Or do they have no bones and are not the same as feeding chicken necks for the purpose of good teeth cleaning.

- Raw chicken backs are good, the bones if uncooked pose no problem. At least for my Rhodesian Ridgeback, eats those things whole. Oh, lol your just looking for good teeth cleaning. Best thing to do is just to get a brush and teach him or her to like that feeling of clean. I'm sure they're are special pastes for them too.
- Yes the raw frozen chicken necks are safe, my dogs love the variety of raw frozen foods sold at the pet supply that I shop at.. Cooked bones are a no no but raw is safe.. As far as the pig tails those I'm not shure.
- Absolutely, depending on the size (my dog is a chihuahua/pomeranian cross just under 5 kgs) and if they are small she can eat upto 4, if they are big like we got her yesterday she could only eat 2, we freeze them in those lunch storage bags so she gets a meal out of each bag, they are excellent for cleaning her teeth and they also help if the dog gets a bit constipated, they seem to help things along and she loves them, so go for it! :)
- Yes both of those are good. I feed the pig tails as treats. as long as the meat at the pet store is not cooked, then they are fine. cooked bones can splinter and can possibly cause the dog to choke. I wouldn't give pig tails though for cleaning teeth, there's not enough bone there to really do anything. feed meats such as chicken backs, chicken leg quarters, chicken legs, rabbit, squirrel, etc. Good luck.
