How long can fertilized chicken eggs survive without heat?
I have a broody chicken, she's been laying there for about 1 week. My mom wants to get her fertilized eggs, but since she works a lot, i want to know how long can fertilized chicken eggs survive without heat?

- Well, it really depends on what you're going to use them for. If you're just going to toss them in a pan in the morning, then it really doesn't matter. Just make sure you discard the embryos before you serve them.
- The eggs must not be without heat for more than half an hour. Get an incubator to keep the eggs warm until they are under the chicken. Only put one under her at a time. One a day.
- Hi Im not sure if you have a broody hen and want to get her some fertile eggs to sit on? If this is the case fertile eggs once laid can be kept in cool conditions (not in the fridge just in a pantry etc) for 10 days until fertility will drop off. You can get a setting of fertile eggs and pop them under the hen (usually at night so as not to disturb her too much) . I incubate poultry eggs all the time and wait till I have collected at least a dozen before I put them in the incubator with excellent results. If you store them in an egg carton make sure the eggs are pointed end down and prop the carton up so one end is higher than the other. Change the end you prop up each day to help the eggs stay viable. Just remember that you cant use eggs that a hen has started to sit on, just the ones that have been laid and left. Hope this helps :) Cheers, Michelle
- Well, I'm not quite sure if you're saying you want to get the fertilized eggs out from under your hen to incubate them yourself, or if you're saying you want to get some fertilized eggs for the hen to sit on. If you're asking about wanting to get some eggs for your broody hen to hatch, most eggs will be viable for about a week and a half after being laid. So if you want to order some or collect them from other hens for a few days, it should work out fine. Good luck!
- Im not sure, if they die just make an omelete or something. I know this sounds mean but i am actually eating chicken pie right now lol. If you dont know what to do get a duck.
- Well, your question is a bit confusing to me..... But I think I understand Well, if she has been setting on them for about 7 days they have a incubation so thay have a chick thats forming. So that cant be without heat more than 2 hours. its very uncommon for a hen to get off the nest unless you get her off. She should get off and go eat some hens wil go on the nests in the morning to lay more eggs and such.
