Chook Me!

What can I use in bath for chicken pox? Any other good remedies for stopping the itching?

My daughter (4) and son (20 months) woke up with chicken pox yesterday morning.

  1. you can use Aveeno (with oatmeal) or you can use stalks of lemongrass (from the oriental market) chop it up into 3 -4 inch sections boil it to get the greenish color into the water - mix into the bath and soak in it - works very well and cost a lot less than most otc cures.
  2. Baking soda in the bath water is another home remedy. Add enough to make the water a little cloudy, say half a box in a half filled bathtub. Will help sooth the itching.
  3. try some aloevera and tea tree oils
  4. Oilatum is a good emollient for in the bath and calamine lotion is good for cooling and stopping any itching
  5. Oatmeal baths are good. Aveno makes one and so do many others, you can get them at any drug store and some groceries. Check with your children's DR, there should be someone to answer your calls 24/7 or to take your number and call you back. There are several itch medicines but the ages and unknown medical histories of your children make it unwise of me to recommend them, their Dr needs to do that. Keep in mind that the itch probably bothers you more than it does them. And you should determine if any visitors to your home have had chicken pox in the past as there are so many more people in this country who have not been exposed these days. Chicken pox is contagous and adults are much more severly affected by the disease that children they should be kept out of the house until the children are well again.
  6. Use Oatmeal use turmeric powder in ur bath This all helps in quick recovery Try applying neemleaves paste after u have ur bath(this is best for itching)
