how long should the light on my baby chicks be?

I have 4 baby 8 day old chicks how long should i have light on them for? should i turn the light of at night and keep it on during the day? or should i have it on all night and turn in on at day time?

  1. You should leave the light on 24 hours a day. Put the lamp close to the floor of the enclosure, high enough for the chicks to get under it without burning themselves on the bulb. I place a thermometer under the light and try to keep the temp at 95 degrees F.-Try to stay away from mercury thermometers unless you purchase one which is shatter proof. The chicks will move under and away from the light as they require warmth and cooling. By the way the chicks may try to roost on top of the light as they get older.
