Why do roosters crow early in the morning?

Why do roosters crow so early in the morning? I hear them crowing at 4:30am in the morning sometimes when I visit my grandmother.

1. They crow when they awaken and at periodic times during the day. It is a way to help his flock know his location and to assert dominancy. There's not a whole lot you can do about it except get rid of the rooster.
2. They are asserting their dominance and declaring their territory to keep other rooster s away.
