Chook Me!

Is this a suitable coop for 2-3 chickens?

http://www.rabbitmart.com/shop/index.php?page=shop-flypage-24319 above is a link to a picture and description, it is primarily a hutch for rabbits but would it work for chickens too? How much space do they usually need to nest in and how much out door space do they need? Please don't answer unless you have experience with raising chickens.

  1. NO, way too small! Would you want to live in such a confined space?
  2. No that is too small for to or three even one chicken. I have raised chickens since I was born they need a good sized coop(way bigger than that) and a place to run around out side the coop. The place outside the coop need to be big enough for you to move around freely without being squished and without stepping on the chickens themselves. Here are some websites that might benefit you. http://www.mypetchicken.com/ebook.aspx http://www.gatewaytovermont.com/thefarm/chickens.htm I hope I have helped you good luck with your chickens!!
  3. It could work as en enclosure to keep a few chickens safe from predators at night, provided it is sturdy enough, but they will need to be able to come outside during the day. It does not look like it would provide much protection from inclement weather, though.
  4. too small even for bantams.. what chickens NEED, WANT, and can survive in, are different things.. sure they can survive in a tiny pen, but they will not be happy.. here is a link on care for pet chickens http://www.gomestic.com/Pets/Unusual-Pets-Chickens.76299
  5. Concerning the space chickens need ( depending on the breed ) as a rule of thumb you need to give them around 3-5 square feet per chicken on the inside of the coop. And they require around 20 -40 square feet per chicken as an outside run. hope that helps
