- Maybe there is a local feed store in your area that sells local chicks or get information there about anyone nearby who has chicks for sale or will have them in the future.
- paris farmers union, they cost about 2.50 a chick and ive order only 6 once
- I ordered some chicks from Ideal Hatchery this spring, and have thus far been pleased. When ordering from a hatchery one should never expect anything more then birds that represent the breed (unless the hatchery states otherwise). It is very difficult to get a good show able bird from a hatchery, so if that is what you want you need to look for a breeder. My shipment included 5 Silkies, 25 OEGB, and 25 Standard Brahmas. One of each type of bantam died in shipment (From Texas to PA through snow). All of the other birds are getting very pretty and plump. As for the Silkies- I own several and they have proven to be very sweet birds. I don’t suggest getting Silkies unless you don’t mind them hatching out chicks, and don’t mind the lack of eggs. My Silkie roosters are not as loud as my other breeds, but they still make quite a bit of noise, which close neighbors may not like. Places where you can get a small amount of chicks- Feed stores- often sell chicks in the spring. TSC does have a min of 6 chicks. MyPetChicken- They allow as little as three chicks to be shipped depending on where you live. Ideal- Seems that you already are aware with them. Crackle- I do believe is 15 min. http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/BRKHatcheries.html#supp this is a list of hatcheries by state. Hope this helps, Rhode Runner
