What is an average meal like at your house?
Just Wondering =) I was at my Brother-in-laws house this past evening, while he was feeding is children. He was feeding them just macaroni & a glass of water. no judgment to him.. I was just wondering what you feed your families for dinner. My children are 10,8,7,5,3 yr. old twins,16 months & 6 weeks. We normally have the main course. It's sometimes Lasagna, Spaghetti, Chicken, some time of rice,casseroles.. thinks like that. Then we normally have a fruit or vegetable for the children to eat(corn, broccoli..) Then some times a bread.(rolls..things like that) I normally make my children drink a glass of milk with dinner as well. So what do you mommies feed your families for dinner?

- we all sit in diff rooms and eat whatever we want but im a kid so...
- I don't eat dinner. Depending on when my husband gets home from work, we don't all sit down together. I feed the kids healthy stuff, chicken, fish, lots of veggies, we grill almost every day in the summer. If my husband gets home late I cook for him and we sit down together with a glass of wine and talk.
- I make easy dinners and because my husband is at work for dinner time, sometimes dinner can be a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for me and my daughter. My son is one and I still give him baby food a lot. I usually have at least a meat and a starch (rice, pasta, potato). Spaghetti, Jambalaya, and hot dogs stirred in a skillet with soy sauce and garlic with rice seems to be our favorites lately.
- I like to make my meat in the croc pot- its a guaranteed tender, and worry free result. I always have a starch, potatoes, rice etc...and veggies- we really like spinach at my house. When we mix it up, its usually pastas with a salad. I usually don't do milk at dinner, water or diluted juice is my choice only cause i dont want them to fill up on milk. dessert is fudgcicles or jello!!!
- No biggie at our home.,my wife always prepares the evening meal, usually battered fried chicken,or breaded pork chops mashed potatoes, vegetables..home made pie for dessert...Friday night we have a Mexican food buffet...Saturday Pizza, homemade ice cream usually...about it..Sundays is the only days our 3 boys can have fast food.,usually McDonald's BIg Mac, malt and fries...
- I always make sure to have a very well balanced and nutritious dinner. Always some type of fruit and veggie, either rice, pasta, or other side dish, bread and a main dish, like spaghetti, chicken, we do a lot of fish, ect. and usually milk to drink, sometimes juice.
- well at my house its me(pregnant) , my husband, my 2 yr old son, and my twin brother. i usually cook up good meals, but money is tight so its burritos, hot dogs with mac and cheese, breakfast...anything cheap
- Macaroni and water LOL that sounds like a jail meal or something (not to insult your firend. I try to give them a "colorful" plate (lots of vegetables or fruit).. I just got this new BBQ so I've been grilling lots of salmon, hot dogs, hamburgers, and anything else I can to use it. I think my kids are getting sort of sick it haha but i also make similar stuff to you. Roasted chicken, stir fry rice and veggies, tacos, spaghetti, stuff like that. They either drink milk or juice depends on the meal, and theres always a serving of fruit or vegetables. I'm coming over to your house for dinner by the way, lasagna sounds great. Whenever I try to make that it turns out lopsided lolll.

- it really just depends on the night. sometimes its fast food, sometimes its a big meal, and other times its just whatever we can pop in the microwave. my daughter eats alot of chicken, potatoes, and pasta. she's 4 and pretty picky! but when we have big meals i try to make her eat what we are eating. i do alot of things in the slow cooker. my son eats whatever we eat too and hes 1. they usually have milk with dinner as well no matter what we eat.
- I'm a lot like you...well I only have 4 kids, but we eat a lot of lasagna, spaghetti, and casseroles. Our favorit, and perhaps cheapest is tuna casserole. It's a combination of egg noddles, cream of mushroom soup, dill relish, and tuna. The kids love it! We also eat a lot of full course meals with 1 meat and 2 side veggies. My favorit is fried pork chops. Another favorit is tenderloin with Uncle Ben's Wild Rice and steamed veggies. I also make a lot of mashed potatoes. Try it with butter and Pet Milk, it taste great!
- First off, I should let you know I'm the child of the family. ;] But anyway, we will usually have: Rice (Yeah, we're an asian family.) Some kind of green vegetable Soup Tofu/Cooked Potatoes And usually they'll cook a little meat for themselves (I don't eat it though, vegetarian) Either that or just some sort of pasta like Lasagna/Alfredo/etc. As for drinks, if we don't have soup, we just opt with water or an unfinished can of soda from earlier today. =]
- I dunno about mommies, my mother was taken from me at a very young age. I feel like that is complaining, it is just a statement. In my family we tried to make lunch the big meal. My grandpa was the head of the home, he is very wise, intelligent and educated. If you look up the top ten leading causes of death you might find obesity some where on this list. One of the biggest reasons why were obese is because of our diet. People eat huge meals at night not long before they go to bed. Much of that calorie intake isn't burned while you sleep, and instead it is turned into fat. That process is a daily occurrence in so many lives and now in the US we have an army of really fat useless people. If you want people to have a good meal at least once a day, be sure it's lunch, and be sure your children remain active, bicycling and swimming are the best and most useful two.
- I work parttime and so am home most of the day, so i like to cook good and hearty meals for my family. I always use fresh ingredients and fresh fruit for snacks. When I have to work in the evening I usually just put something in the slow cooker and that way we have a home cooked meal. I dont want to be like my sisters and how they dont eat together and snacks for their kids are pretty much what they get from the pantry, mostly junk food. I want my family to be healthy and to eat together. I want my little girl to reach for fruit as a sweet treat instead of junk, I dont want her to turn out how I was as a kid, unhealthy and overweight due to excessive unhealthy eating.
- well this week I am lucky enough to have my menu planned - D1- steak sandwiches (with peppers, onions, mushrooms, and provolone) D2- Scalloped potatos with ham and corn D3- Chicken Quesadillas (i will probably make guacamoli on the side) D4- Chicken Fried rice (with veggies cooked in it) D5- Shrimp fettucini D6- beef roast with root veggies D7- Tater tot casserole I ussually serve dessert every other day. I like to be sure there are veggies with every meal... they eat all veggies so it makes life easy! You should have seen my kids tear up the brussel sprouts I made a few weeks ago! We all sit down for dinner together unless its sunday, that night we all eat in front of the tv and watch funniest home videos.
- my baby is just about 1yr. He is the only one that eats well on a regular basis (fruit, veggies, meat and milk). His dad and I will make the quickest thing pancakes, eggs, take out etc. Sometimes I will make spaghetti, lasagna, make chicken, potato salad etc. As a new mommy we are just now moving beyond the purees so I am learning what to make for the baby. Now that I have read your question I now have some ideas.
- No mommy yet!! But, I'm going to feed my kids the way my mom feed me growing up. So, an average week might go like this: Monday- Grilled or baked chicken breast with rice and veggie (usually broccoli, green beans, asparagus, spinach---a green veggie) and a salad. Tuesday- Baked pork chops with mashed potatoes and veggie (again, usually a green veggie) and a salad. Wednesday-Pasta (either ziti or ravioli) with homemade sauce(we never ate jarred sauce), bread and salad. Thursday-Turkey Tacos (ground turkey, instead of beef) with loads of veggies, including onions, tomato, lettuce, rice and salad. Fridays-Chicken Fajitas. Chicken sauteed in a little olive oil with fresh cut veggies. We were unconventional with our fajitas, so my mom would throw in onions, green/red/orange peppers, summer squash, zucchini and even cut up broccoli. We'd have them on whole wheat wraps. Saturday- Easy Day! So, either pizza or chinese, ordered out. When she cooked on Saturdays, it was burgers (turkey), pasta salad and regular salad. Also, sometimes just soap and sandwiches. Sundays-My mom would make big dinners. So, lasagna or a whole roast chicken with baked potatoes, green beans, salad. Sometimes, we'd have steak. I know this is a little bland for some people, but growing up, my mom was never into casseroles or meatloaf. She always stuck to lean proteins, lots of veggies and rice/potatoes. We were big salad people. I mean, plain salad too....just veggies! No bacon or crotons. The only thing we added was dressing, usually olive oil and balsamic vinger. We were also big fruit eaters. I still am. We'd snack on fruit all the time. Drinks were water ( was always encouraged to drink later, because it didnt' have sugar or caffeine it in), cranberry juice and orange juice. Milk too, but not as much....I really went through a phase where I hated milk.
- My husband and I are on the Atkins diet, and my daughter is 5 months old so she still eats formula and baby food. But for my husband and I - we usually eat an Atkins shake and bar for breakfast - if we have more time, I'll make eggs and bacon or something. For lunch - I'll usually make a salad. We go out to eat a few times a week for lunch, too. Zaxby's, Longhorn, etc.. Dinner - Varies everyday. It usually consists of some sort of meat - Burgers, Chicken, Steak...something like that. A veggie: Zucchini, Summer Squash, Salad, Asparagus, Or we may have something like veggie soup.
- I was gonna just say Chaotic, but now i see, we go through nothing compared to your dinner time! (just 3 kids) All those young children. God bless you!! Anyway, sometimes i will cook meat, veg and starch and some nights just mac and cheese, some nights just fried chicken, and when i have no time, some times cheerios and milk.
- Well we set a menu once a week that changes week to week. This Week was: Monday: Grilled Chicken,Rice, Green Beans, Rolls. Tuesday:Left over grilled chicken chopped up on salad with boiled eggs, cheese, bacon bits, tomatoes, cheese and ranch. And hot rolls. Wed: Meatloaf, Corn on the cob, Mashed Potatoes and carrots Thursday: Homemade Gourmet Soup, changes week to week. This weeks is chicken enchilada, with cornbread. Friday: Grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, and fixings by the pool. Saturday: Fish sticks, Macaroni and cheese and peas. Sunday: We will eat out! Each meal usually gets a roll or bread of some sorts, and also includes a dessert that typically is either sugar free jello, sugar free pudding, fruit, or a once a week treat of ice cream sandwiches! The younger kids (5 and under),drink Milk, the other two most likely will have a soda or tea. Next week who knows what will be on the menu, most likely tacos, spaghetti, chicken nuggets, Chicken and Dumplings, and something else like Pork Chops. I have 7 kids, so I know how hard it can be to get a good meal cooked! I think that good meals help a growing mind!
