Chook Me!

Is this a big enough hutch/run for 2 rabbits? Please read? (pic)?

Hi. I might be getting 2 rabbits- A mini lop, and a netherland dwarf. I will first get the mini lop, and a couple of months later I will get the netherland dwarf and 'bond' them, so they are friends. I was wondering would this cage/run be big enough for them? It says its a chicken coop, but it can also be used for rabbits and guinie pigs. here it is: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/articles/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/rs709_crop.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/articles/hen-house/&usg=__vHRhtScvBlksbmWr96BB2lRUP6I=&h=298&w=400&sz=46&hl=en&start=8&um=1&tbnid=kI79410mLVwcFM:&tbnh=92&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpoultry%2Bhen%2Bhouse%2Bchicken%2Bcoop%2Brabbit%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1 There are more pictures on this page if you scroll down: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/articles/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/rs709_crop.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.ideas-4-pets.com/articles/hen-house/&usg=__vHRhtScvBlksbmWr96BB2lRUP6I=&h=298&w=400&sz=46&hl=en&start=8&um=1&tbnid=kI79410mLVwcFM:&tbnh=92&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpoultry%2Bhen%2Bhouse%2Bchicken%2Bcoop%2Brabbit%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1 Thanks for answering! and another (?) What do you use for the bottom of the rabbit hutch. I am planning on using hay for the bedding, and for them to eat some too, but I dont know if i should use straw or wood shavings for the main part. And can I use newspaper for the litter tray. I will litter train them so it is easier to clean

  1. yes that is big enough. Its extremely big. and i would use either hay or wood shavings for the hutch
  2. that is plenty big enough.you should just let the grass grow in the outside part of the hutch.by the way the best kind of hay for them is timothy
  3. definitely big enough!
  4. plenty big the rule is about 1 square foot per pound of the rabbit also DO NOT use straw as bedding because the rabbits have a very very high chance of getting ear mites if you do wood chips or saw shavings should work fine just dont get red cedar woodchips hope i helped :)
  5. Yeah they'll be thrilled with that housing, that's plenty of space. :) For bedding, my rabbit's cage is an indoor one so it has a plastic bottom and I just put hay in it, and recycled paper litter for the tray. The danger with wood shavings is that some of the most common ones you can buy in pet stores, like pine and aspen, are actually dangerous for small animals because of the fumes from the wood. They're linked to liver disease. It's better to just leave hay in there so they can eat as much of that as they want - my rabbit actually tends to clear a space free of hay to sleep in, so really he has no bedding at all.
  6. thats huge and your rabbits will love it and you
  7. Yes, that looks great!
