I have six baby chicks and I wanted some good advice?
I just got six adorable baby chicks and I have them in a wooden box in a warm room with some newspaper covering the bottom of the box and some shavings and some straw/hay covering over the paper. They have their chick feeder and their chick food along with their water and they have their heat lamp. But I was wondering if I was maybe doing something wrong or if I should maybe add a few things.

- Sounds good for now. I don't really see anything that you left out. :) Just make sure the chicks are comfy. You can tell if the temperature is to warm or cold by how close or far away they are from the light. If they are new chicks you could sprinkle some sugar water in their pen. You could also grab some grass and through it down so that they can play around with that. How, it is getting the place outside prepared for the little buggers when they are old enough. Also at this time of year, where I live it is warm enough for the chicks to play outside, so if you have a pen that they can't escape (or nothing can get them) I am sure they would love some outside time. But, make sure that you are home whenever you do this, otherwise it is safer to keep them inside. A little rain can do some damage to those little guys. All seems good so far and I hope it continues. If you have any questions feel free to contact me via email. Jamie/Rhode Runner. Edit: Also at this stage you will want to keep an eye out for pasty butt, which is when the chicks waste gets stuck on its bottom, and it can't go to the bathroom. This can kill the chick if it is left go for to long. So if you do see it, you can try to get it off with a warm wet washcloth. Worst case senerio you have to cut it off, but make sure you don't actually get the flesh.
