how do I increase humidety in an incubator?

I am trying to hatch some button quail in a homemade incubator and I can't get humidety above 40% even thjough I have a huge pan of water with a heat pad underneath.

  1. mist the eggs lightly with a spray bottle a few times a day
  2. Hi, if the pan is too big than it might have too large of a surface area to produce mist etc. Most incubators (if the heat source is a light and not heating pads) will have a few moist sponges near the eggs. The sponges easily release water. I hoped this helped.
