Homemade incubator for a Ball python?
I'm researching as much as I can on Ball python breeding because when I raise my Ball pythons and get them to the correct weight I will begin to breed them. I want to know how to create a good incubator for holding Ball python eggs. Here are my questions I have: 1) What should I use as a heating source to keep the eggs at their correct temperature? 2) What substrate should I use for the eggs? 3) Do I need to tear the eggs apart when my Ball python lays them, or should I just keep them as they are? 4) What could I use for the incubator? 5) What temps and humidity levels should I keep the eggs at? 6) What should I use to tell the temperature of the incubator? If you have any other things I should know about the incubator or anything about breeding I will appreciate it. Thank you! -Tiffany

- Well like I told you before, a simple cooler would do the trick if you cant afford a $400 professional one. You want to buy an under water heater that are used for fish, two digital thermometers, Two bricks, a sturdy rubber made container for the eggs, hatch right ( substrate ), and a nice plastic sheet. Now how you want to set this up is easy. yo want to put enough water in the cooler to cover the entire heater. and about half of the brick. But the heater in the middle of the cooler, with the two bricks on the side of the heater. put a thermometer in the water around the heater. Next you are going to put about 2 -3 inches of hatch right into the container..make sure you have a decent sized container.. After that put a thermometer in the hatch right. Ajust your heater to the temps you want, and work with it every day about two months before hand to make sure you have the right temps ready to go. remember you want on arv. about 89-90 degrees in the hatch right. When that day comes, don't tear the eggs if you don't have to. you don't want to rip one open. ok..now the plastic is to be put in between the container itself and the containers top to make an air tight seal. Remember.. do this about two months before the eggs come..you don't want to do it a week before and have to deal with crazy temps. Hatch right is the best you can use as you don't have to soak it you just pour it in and your ready to go. its pretreated and premoistened. once again..do it BEFORE you get the eggs..two months should be a good time..if you have any other questions..im me :D 10 pnts now ^_^
- Get a Hovabator. They are pretty cheap, and reliable. You are better off buying an incubator.Do a lot of research before breeding. -Alex
- Hey miss tiff!!! I def. agree with buying one if you can i think its the only way to insure that your babies will be perfectly healthy and safe while growing inside their eggs. but if you have to make one do lots and lots of research, otherwise go to websites like http://www.herpsupplies.com http://lllreptile.com/ I really like these places they have tons of everything Herp :D
