- Usually, when a male is confronted by a female ready to breed, he will begin to stalk her. He may rapidly vibrate his tail, or begin waving it about and scent marking. He'll slowly get near and will then bite the female, often at the base of the tail. He'll then take rapid nips, moving forward a little with each bite in hopes of achieving a neck hold on the back or side of the neck. If the female accepts him, he'll curl his tail under that of the female and copulation will take place. This usually lasts a very short time, and the male can usually be seen cleaning himself immediately after they separate. While I'm not sure how she does it, sometimes a female will reject the male. Usually the male understands this 'NO' signal and releases the female. Don't worry if this happens, he'll try again later and eventually she will be ready. In fact, he'll mate with the female several times during the breeding season, fertilizing many sets of eggs. A female will then lay 1 maybe 2 eggs the first time and 2 eggs each time after that during breeding season to make a clutch of eggs. When she lays them you will need to take them out as fast as you can and incubate them. 87ish will get females, 91 or above will get males...89-90 will be a mix. The eggs will take about 2 months to hatch. You can get a small incubator at the tractor supply or somewhere like that for around $35.
- I made a egg chamber out of a pencil box with a hole cut in the top from kmart then added perlite that i sprayed with water. I got a 1602N incubator from lllreptile.com as well some hatchrite in a kit thing, I also got an Indoor/outdoor thermometer from Target for like $10 with a 5ft probe. Then I put the babies in a large reptiflat plastic cage from lllreptile.com, and put a mini under heater under it from lllreptile.com. Thats about all you need, everything will hit about $150 max.
