How do you tell the difference between male and female chicks?
Hi I just hatched out 17 brown egg laying chicks and I'd like to know how to tell the difference between the males and females. I once watched a show on it and I think they can tell by their feathers on their wings or something. How exactly do you do that? Thanks.

- a quick way to tell that how many are male chicks and how many are female chicks. There is a big red soft skin on the head of male chick. The female chicks either don't have it or if they have, they are very small.
- Take all of your fingers and put them around the neck of the chick, so that its head is inside your fingers. Gently lift up until the chick is hanging. (this does not hurt them) The female will continue to kick. The male will kick and then hang still.
- If the chicks are a type of sexlink then you can tell by the color of their feathers. useually the males are a white or grayish color. To actually sex the chicks is kind of hard. They best way you can learn is probably go onto youtube and type in, Dirty Jobs: Chick Sexing, and that should help you a little. Hope This Helps!!!!!!!!
