Chook Me!

I have frozen chicken breasts individually packaged in plastic. Can I boil them?

That is, can I boil them inside their plastic packages, then cut the packages open, chop the chicken to bite-sized pieces, and use them in some extravagant culinary creation? Would this render the meat tough and unpalatable? Would noxious substances like bisphenol-A leach into the meat, interrupting the endocrine systems of everyone who ate my meals? I've been pulling the breasts out, chopping them into big chunks, sauteing them lightly, then slicing, but this takes a lot of time and chopping frozen chicken is a major pain. I broke my good knife the other day doing this. What are your thoughts?

  1. I think the way you've been doing it will lend the most flavor adn tenderness... but yes, you can "simmer" (don't boil!) them in their bags.
  2. just boil them with out the plastic in the water....they will not be tough. As long as you dont over do it. This is a great method if you want to shred the chicken when its done.
  3. depends if the plastic packages were meant to be "boiled". i'd say read the directions...
