how to make a simple lizard trap to catch wild lizards.?
i want to catch a couple wild lizards so i can breed them but i don't want o be outside all day trying to catch them. i have experience handling and breeding wild lizards that my cousins caught for me over then summer. so can u give me some steps to making a simple lizard trap that i can put outside and that i only have to check on to see if there is lizards. i am trying to catch lizards that are sort of like sand dune lizards in new mexico. andi already have a 20 gallon tank ready with a habitat very similar to the habitat the lizards live in that i researched to inhabit lizards and i have an reptile egg incubator for when they breed ad lay eggs. Also could you tell me how to tell if a lizard is male or female and signs for when thefemale is pregnant. Thank you i have tryed the dig a hole and put a bucket in it so they fall in trap and it works sometimes but im not getting enough lizards and i am mostly getting babys (which i release back into the wild) is ther anyother easy traps that are cheap to make?

- Well, if you're going to keep wild lizards, your enclosure looks like the way to do it! As for a trap: Lizards do not take bait, and they are quick. It's very hard to trap one. I would try and find one, and when you do, look where you found it. If it was basking, it will probably be there the next day. So head out to where you found it the next day, and try your best! It's hard. Or you can just look around. Yeah, it will probably take all day, but they are just too hard to get with a "trap". You can try and trap them yourselves, (like corner it) but it will be hard. Once you've got two of the same species, look at the differences. Male lizards usually have bulkier heads. Also, females are a little bigger. Put them in the same cage. If they fight, both are male, if they don't do anything, leave them in the cage for a few days. If they haven't mated, you have two females. Males also have two bulges at the base of the tail, which females do not. Now, females will look fat if they are pregnant. They will look huge. Sooner or later they will lay the eggs. And I think you know what to do from there. :) Good luck!
- Pitfall traps work best when there is a fence to lead the lizards to it. A length of aluminum flashing works well. The simplest trap is the glue trap sold for mice. Use vegetable oil to remove the lizard.
