Chook Me!

Can someone help me? (chicken help?)?

I got 4 hens. 2 I got last year which turned out to be 2 Rhode Island Reds, and they follow me like a dog, and when i call them they usually come. and I just got 2 barred rocks (one is all black, so idk what it is? but it's supposably a barred rock) and they are suppose to be 2 hens as well, which i think they are? but there only 4 months old, so i still don't know for sure.. but there both so afraid of me! and i even had them in the house when i first got them, and spent everyday with them for at least an hour at least! but they always had a fear of me and everyone else. i literally hand fed them both, and they know who feeds them. I have a dog kennel That i let them run in everyday because they run from me otherwise, and i put them away in their coops at night (which i keep in my garadge so nothing gets them) so that's a problem when i go to put them away. but i even try to spend time with them in there and they stay as far away from me as possible. what can i do to get them to like me, and come to me when i need them to? thanks! oh and additionally, does anyone know what that black one could be? it is mostly black, and has like, some brown in the front of it. and some of the feathers look like they are a fishbowl greenish? but it doesn't look like a barred rock to me. i'll try to take a picture of her tomorrow! thanks!

  1. Maybe it's the breed don't know bout barred rocks maybe their naturally skittish, as far as the b. rocks having brown and green on them maybe they're cross breed with a rhode island red i am just guessing i recently have been getting into the chicken thing myself if you don't get your answer post again later their are a few, very few that are good chicken farmers on here that can answer your question the rest will just guess.
  2. I think the black one is a Black Sex Link (Black Star) its a mix of barred rock and Rhode Island Red. They probably are just shy or something because of the older hens. I have no way to fix their problem unless you start holding them 12 hours a day (I really don't recommend it) they probably wont do the things the other two do.
