  1. You really should have the varicella vaccination. If you are in the US and are going to a public school, you have probably gotten it and just don't know it.
  2. Usually in a kid you just get them. That shot is B.S. my younger sister was vaccinated when she was younger and and she still got them, in fact she got the big swollen kind that have liquid in them...of all 3 of us, my sister was vaccinated and her chicken pox were the WORST.Even if you've had the shot you can get em. Once you get chicken pox once you you usually dont get them again, (my bro got em 2x) the older the worse, just because tikes have way better immune systems ...the older you get the weaker your immune system and as a result chicken pox can be fatal, cuz of the fevers and what not. Usually if you get them after the age of 10 it's from someone else. If you have yonger siblings or cuzzo's that get it...STAY AWAY from them because chicken pox are HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS and itch like hell , they last about a week. I was 4 when I got them and I STILL remember the misery, lol.
  3. Chickenpox is a common illness among kids, particularly those under age 12. An itchy rash of spots that look like blisters can appear all over the body and may be accompanied by flu-like symptoms. Chickenpox is caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Kids can be protected from VZV by getting the chickenpox (varicella) vaccine, usually between the ages of 12 to 15 months. A person usually has only one episode of chickenpox, but VZV can lie dormant within the body and cause a different type of skin eruption later in life called shingles (or herpes zoster). Getting the chickenpox vaccine significantly lowers your child's chances of getting chickenpox, but he or she may still develop shingles later. People who haven't had chickenpox also can catch it from someone with shingles, but they cannot catch shingles itself. That's because shingles can only develop from a reactivation of VZV in someone who has previously had chickenpox. Hope this answers your query.
  4. yes the older you get the worst they get older meaning in 20's . 13 is ok but if you are in public school you should have gotten a shot for it.
  5. Get the vaccine. I came down with chicken pox on New Year's eve when I was 30 years old, and I was as sick as I've ever been. Also, I had some serious complications and scars I'd rather not have. To quote the Wisdom Cube: "The itching drove me to the brink of insanity!" And that's putting it mildly. Also, everyone who has had chicken pox has a chance of getting shingles; and from what I understand about that, you can live the rest of your life in terrible pain. Some people can't stand even a slight breeze on their skin. Fun, huh? Get the shot.
  6. Oh you poor girl. I'm 13 too and I was lucky I had the chicken pox at 6 years old..And no if your near anyone that has the chicken pox then you'll get it too.
  7. I got the chicken pox when I was 15. I was fairly sick before I got them (flu) and had a medium case. My brother was home on spring break he was 20 and his case was severe. He was in bed for a week - he was so ill and covered. It's not to late to get the vaccine since you haven't gotten them naturally. You could still get a mild case but it's best then chancing it. Chickenpox is a highly contagious disease that spreads from person to person by direct contact or through the air from an infected person's coughing or sneezing. Touching the fluid from a chickenpox blister can also spread the disease. A person with chickenpox is contagious from one to two days before the rash appears until all blisters have formed scabs.
