Chook Me!

What is the easiest way to build a chicken coop?

I need a cheap and easy way to build a chicken coop. I have 5 chickens so I don't need anything to big. But it must be easy because I am building it and I am not a carpenter. LOL

  1. Chicken wire and posts. Post out the area, then attached the chicken wire....the posts have hooks. You will also need a place for the chickens to roost or lay eggs. Here's a site to give you some ideas. www.urchickencoop.com
  2. I made one with metal stakes used for livestock fencing. They're about $5 each, pointed on one end so you drive them into the ground easily with a sledge hammer, and they are already painted to not rust. They have little holes & hooks along the length of them so you can wrap chicken wire around the outside perimeter and twist regular wire through the chicken wire and the holes in the posts to secure it tightly. This worked for me, but if you want a completely enclosed coop that can be heated to withstand cold winters, you're better off with a new or used backyard prefab shed. Good luck!! ; )
