Is fried chicken really bad for you?
I like to make hot boneless buffalo wings with chicken breasts. I deep fry them in vegetable oil, and let them drain for quite a bit, I don't like them greasy. Is it bad to eat 700-1200 calories worth of fried food a week?

- actually, yes. depending on your height and weight, you should only be eating around 1200 calories per day. All of that fat and oil does not help your body. If it does not get burned off, it gets stored as fat and can accumulate over your stomach, hips thighs, etc. I WOULDNT RECCOMMEND IT but you could always eat that type of food with a good diet.
- Its not bad, its just not geat for you. Its good that you drain them though.
- I tend to disagree with Christin's comment - of course, it does depend on your age - but a recommended calorie intake for men is 2200 calories a day, depending on how active you are - 1200 is a low calorie slimming diet and you will lose weight - which isn't always required. As for trans fats, you could make the fried chicken yourself using peanut oil, which is a monounsaturated oil and doesn't have trans fats. Of course, the calorie content will be just as high, but food is for enjoying, and you wouldn't eat it every day, would you?
- It depends on your age. If you are in growing age (under 20) then its ok as for one meal but requires a much lot calorie in whole day and if you are in the range of 20-35 then 5k calories in one day is more enough to supply adequate amount of energy and if you are above 35 then it has to be less than 5k in a day.
- To much of anything could be bad. That does sound like a lot of fired food. I think you should limit your self to 1 - 2 times a month
- yes it is.
- there is an old saying : if it tastes good its bad for you. that is not always true but in this case it is. an alternative way to cook them is breading them and baking them they won't be as tasty because much of the flavor IS the oil mixed with the chicken juices and batter. remember that the deep frying process involves the exchange of water in the bird for oil(fat)in the bird through the breadig which absorbs both chicken juice and oil acting as a sort of buffer. deep fried foods ALWAYS have added oil to them and are not really too healthy if eaten all the time.
- Once in awhile some fried food is not bad. It is what you fry it in that makes the difference. My Mom fried in Crisco, we did not know any better back then. You are right, drain them well on paper towels to get the excess off. But why fry them in all that grease, put just a little in a pan, fry them, put the lid on and finnish them, take them out and pat the little grease that is there, then add your sauce and simmer them a bit. You get lower calories, less fat, and nice tender wings.
- Yes it's is unhealthy. You should really only eat fried foods in moderation (every no and then not as part of your regular diet). The fat and calories are bad for every part of you and the grease could be clogging your arteries. Why don't you try baking or grilling the wings instead of frying them? You'll have the same great food just a little healthier.
