Chook Me!

Can you pass on chicken pox to a 3rd party if you are immune?

Hi, I suspect my daughter has chicken pox (need to wait until monday to see the dr to confirm it). My question is... If my daughter is in contact with/coughs on me can I pass chicken pox onto another person through close contact with another person? For example she coughs and some droplets get on my face, then somebody kisses my cheek. BTW I am immune to chicken pox and understand that I will not catch it or become infectious. Thanks.

  1. yep. you can be immune to it but you can still be a carrier of it.
  2. If the strain of virus on you is strong enough then yes it can be passed on..
  3. yes but if it is adults you are worried about then they would also be immune. don't go into contact with any babies-toddlers
  4. definitely yes chicken pox are highly contagious. Even after having them as a child if your body didn't have enough viral cells to build up an immunity you too can still catch chicken pox.
  5. First of all, if you've had chickpox you cannot get chickenpox again, but you can infect another person with chickenpox if you've messed around with a person who has it and you have some residues from them on you. However, just because you've had chickenpox and will not get chickenpox again, don't think you're lucky, because you aren't. Your next step, if your immunological sytem is weakened sufficiently, is to get shingles, which can be awful. One million people a year contract shingles, and every single one of them had chickenpox, first, so if you have never had chickenpox, you'll never get shingles. The moral of this story is, don't get chickenpox at all if you can help it.
  6. Theoretically, yes, although chances are still slim. People are at much higher risk of getting infected (by chicken pox or anything else) by drinking from soda fountains than by kissing somebody on the cheek. If you want to be more cautious, just be sure to clean yourself (hands and face) after being with your daughter.
  7. Yes, you can be a carrier of a disease like chicken pox even if you are immune to it. Even though your body is fight the infection, there are still viruses in your body for the time being and so you can still spread them. You should be careful to avoid contact with any adults you know who have never had chicken pox. As you may have heard it is far more serious in adults than it is in children.
