- You'll have to ask about price when you phone them. Mr Fish Stall 115, Indoor Market, 50, Edgbaston St, Birmingham, West Midlands B5 4RQ Tel: 0121 622 6987 Poultry & Game Dealers
- for like 5usd you can get one. look in your news paper!
- I bought some chickens from Cotswold Chickens near Banbury, Oxfordshire. You can find them on the internet. I'm sure there are loads nearer to Birmingham, but they were very helpful. They charged £12 a poulet. We've only had ours a week and one of them has already layed three eggs. We didn't but a coop - I converted the shed and built the run myself, buy I think you are looking at around £70 for a half decent coop. If I had the money I'd buy one of those Eglu coops. They look like I-MAC computers!
- i have over 300 chickens ducks and geese i keep free range..i now breed my own...when i first started i bought/ordered a magazine called country smallholder..there is a large classified section in the back listing loads of suppliers for the items your looking for..you can sometimes get them delivered (humainly..there are transport rules they have to follow) if you can find them near you are better off collecting so you can check out there upbringing conditions etc..but be sure to take someone experienced with you who knows how to tell a younge one..as in all trades there are some unscrupulous dealers about..look for bright eyes..smooth legs and no mucky bum...older birds tend to be moulting at this time of year so that should indicate their age as well..a bird above six months old should lay if fed and kept in the right conditions and be most productive in their first year ( classed as 60 weeks) dependant on breed..e.m. if you.d like more info........good luck and well done for choosing to keep your own..p.s a good general laying hybrid should cost no more than 7 pounds..pure breeds differ on their rarity...show birds are bred for looks and plummage..and tend to lay very few eggs..
- There is a site on the net that you can buy ex battery hens www.thehenhouse.co.uk you will be giveing them a new lease of life and gain the experience of chicken keeping.
- I agree you will have to research your area. Internet will help. Local listing of chicken ranches. I buy my chickens via the Internet. But what I want to tell you is that first you need to know what you want them for. Eggs or food? There are differences in what type to buy. If you don't know yet, then you will need to research that. The Internet will help you decide what type chicken is best for your desired need. And if you are just looking for chickens as pets (yes chickens can be pets) try a bantam variety. They are considerably smaller. they come in all shapes and styles and are quite cute. Their eggs are much smaller tho. Good Luck
