How can I transport fertilized chick eggs safely during cold weather?
I'm hatching chicken eggs for my preschool class, using an incubator however I am not sure how to get them to the school without them dieing as it is chilly outside. How can I keep them warm when moving them from the farm to the school?

- put them in a cooler with a warm rock or jar of warm water.
- Are you taking your incubator to school or do you have another one at school? How long is your trip? If it is 30 to 40 minutes or less, warm up the car, and when you are ready, put the incubator in the car with the eggs inside, go directly to school, take the incubator inside and plug it in. The warm incubator will stay warm enough for the trip. Mama chicken sometimes leaves her eggs to eat and drink. They can be away from their warmth for short periods. If you are not taking your home incubator, turn on the incubator at school a couple of days before the move to have it ready and to be sure it works. On moving day place the eggs in egg cartons and as has already been suggested in an insulated cooler. Preheat the cooler to about 100F with warm water. Use heavy duty (freezer) Ziploc bags filled with 100F water to keep them warm. This is being super safe, I have hatched eggs that have been unheated in a 70F environment for several hours.
