What are layers and broilers in a poultry farm?

Public Comments

  1. they are both types of hens. Layers have been selectively bred in order to lay as many eggs as possible in the first 18 months of life. As a result the birds are quite small, and don't have very much muscle (meat) on them. Some of these birds can lay as many as 300 eggs in a year. Broliers on the other hand have been bred in order to be eaten. They grow very rapidly, putting on as much muscle as quickly as possible and generally being killed after a shockingly short time (6 weeks after hatching) in order to be eaten.
  2. Layers-- hens which lay eggs. Broilers--which are killed for their meat, and are useless for eggs.
