- If you google recipe spice substitutions im sure you could find a very helpful site
- NO!
- Common sweet chili powder is your best bet. What I mean by sweet, it's not the hot spicy type. Paprika is no more the a red pepper dried and ground to a fine powder. Just like red roasted peppers in a large jar, are the same as those little itty bitty jars of pimientos, just the red roasted peppers are a lot cheaper. Saffron is way more expensive then chili power. Happy Holidays!
- paprika doesn't have a very strong taste.. skipping it wouldn't be the end of the world
- No to your question. Paprika is hot where saffron is not and colors things yellow. I would use something that is on the hot side. like Cayenne, white or black pepper.
- I would use 1 tsp of mild chili powder or even cayenne- just depends how hot you want it. Unless you use a good Hungarian paprika, most store brands are bland and just add color. Saffron will give it yellow color (and very expensive substitute!)
