Chook Me!

Quick chicken question?

I have been sick for the past week and my mother has been taking care of my chickens for me. okay here is some info on the first off. 1. They are silkies (male and female) black and white 2. They are in a small cage right now because we haven't had them long and are in the process of building a bigger coop. 3. They have hay in the cage to keep them warm 4. The temperatures are normally around 45 or lower lately. I'm in NY Today my mom told me my chickens weren't well. I went out to check on them and the females rear end was all wet and seemed to have blood on it. Is that something normal for a chicken??? I have never heard of that before and I don't know if i should be worried. Any suggestions of what this is or how I can help her?? what antibiotics can i give them? and can i get them somewhere without going to the vet?

  1. Silkies can't tolerate the cold very much as well as other chickens..it probably has a cold and diarrhea. Give it antibiotics and keep them inside..
  2. NO THIS DOESN'T sound normal. I would bring her in until she heals (him too) and until you build the coop. next take it to the vet.
  3. Usually blood in the stool or bleeding from there is associated with worms. You can buy the wormer online at just about any hatchary site. And you can also buy it at just about any farm store....I use wazine....it's used for swine and poultry. once there bleeding you don't have long to worm them. Good luck!!
