Chook Me!

Help!! I'm trying to convince my mom to let me hatch chicks... One Problem! 10 points to best answer?

We live in a house and our back yard is kinda big, but apparently she doesn't know where we'd put a full grown chicken. [These words were disappointing because I was hoping chickenS] I've come up with a coop design and a few places we could put it in our yard : ( She basically said no right there! She's not keen on the idea... I've been good and stuff its just she doesn't want a chicken. Let alone plural. :(

  1. Have you asked her about a duck? Ducks are just as easy to hatch as chickens but ducks make better pets. They are always best in pairs because sometimes they can become noisy alone. I can understand her point-of-view, she's probably afraid that you may lose interest in the bird after it grows. Try this, it always worked with my parents when I was a kid: 1.) Do a little research if you haven't already. Explain to her the process of hatching and what it entails to provide for them. 2.) Keep being good! Stay responsible! If she sees that you are serious then her attitude will change. And most importantly - 3.) Tell her if it doesn't work out that you will ensure that the chicken or duck will have somewhere to go if you both realize it's not for you. Find a local farm and ask them if they will accept chickens or ducks. There is always a way around parents. You just have to know how to work the system. Good Luck!
  2. well you could first find some people who would want to buy chickens so you could still have some but not all( that might sound better to your mom). You could tell her you would take care of them. You could also tell her she wouldnt have to by eggs any more with all thoes chickens(joke)!
  3. ok say u no we could have fresh eggs sell eggs if we had more than 1 raise Phoenix chicks u could sell those 4 about 100$ where i got mine from 100$ 4 5 day old chicks if u got male or female==so i got straight run. u could try bantam chicks a males full grown weight a fat 1 45 oz tops! a ''true'' bantam 22 oz.(true means no larger counterpart Ex.-sebrights true bantam===white crested black polish not so much.) if ur close 2 dresden Tn i could sell u a couple of mine
  4. Tell her its a good profit and if you just keep one or two it can make her day much much better, explain to her only the good things about them! Good luck i love chicks!
  5. Do you know anyone who keeps chickens? Ask your mother to check their operation. If she sees how easy it is and how little space is needed she might change her mind. The biggest concern is roosters and the noise they make. You need a plan to slaughter the cockerels for meat and keep the pullets for the eggs they will lay. You don't need as lot of hens to lay more eggs than your family can use. Fortunately its easy to sell young pullets. Try a plan to hatch 12 eggs, keep 4 hens which will lay about 20 eggs a week, sell the rest of the hens and butcher the cockerels for the freshest and best chicken you will ever eat. Here are some ideas for chicken coops. http://www.backyardchickens.com/coopdesigns.html There is good info throughout the site.
