How Do You Feel About the Dixie Chicks?
After the comment made by them 6 years ago, is there still any animosity felt towards them? Does anyone feel sorry for them? Have they risen again or will they never be as popular as they once were? How do you feel about the backlash they were given?
Public Comments
- they seemed to have disappeared
- Losers.
- Typical liberal elitists in the entertainment field.
- i'm not sure what happened to them? i love their cover of 'landslide' and also i like 'cowboy take me away'
- The Dixie Chicks have gone rock/pop. They have refused to becalled country anymore. I do feel sorry for them becuase before the comment thye had arealy thing going with their music.
- gone and forgotten
- I do feel sorry for them. I feel sorry that celebrities are not allowed to voice their opinions without the media making a big deal of it. The Dixie chicks were at the high point of there career and were shot down by what Natalie said. I do not blame her or hate her for making those comments. I just think we as a nation were looking for someone to blame at the time all this was happening and Natalie just happened to be the one that got caught. I wish them the best but I sincerely doubt we'll ever hear from them again and that's a damn shame, because they offered a lot to country music.
- Well I think they are probably some of the most talented country singers around. As far as feeling sorry for them I really don't because I feel as if this only made them stronger and helped them make better music. In 2006 they came out with a new album called Taking the Long way and in 2007 they won 5 grammy awards so I wouldn't say they got forgotten or are unheard of. As of right now they are all in their 30's have kids and families so they are probably off taking care of them. It has only been about three years since they came out with their last album and movie called shut up and sing...so I bet they will be back and better then ever.
- I'm glad they are gone to be honest. I never liked them. Also IT WASN'T THE COMMENT. No they kept getting some airtime, and were starting to recover. The issue with that comment was that it was on Foreign Soil, NOT the comment in itself. What chased them off was Natalie's big mouth and her not being able to shut it. First that comment, then starting a feud with Toby Keith, and then saying they didn't need the fans and Country Music basically. Saying they don't want to be in the same CD changer as Toby and Reba. Reba spoke up asking why she was being put in it. At the time Toby was on the rise, so you DON'T insult the current Icons. When Toby said it was over and he was being childish and stupid, she had to wear a shirt saying F.U.T.K. to a concert knowing that song would be broadcast at the Award Show. Then took like 2 weeks to dream up what that meant. They wanted to go to pop, and have a few "real" fans. Well they became a total flop AFTER Natalie wore that shirt, and it was their own fault to think she was untouchable.
- They never got the respect they deserved.
- I never really cared for their music so it wasn't a great loss to me. I never really cared one way or the other about the comments that were made but, I don't feel sorry for them because as a celebrity you are in the public eye and everything you say and do is gone over with a fine tooth comb. Don't say something if you aren't prepared to deal with the consequences.
- I miss them, I miss them, I miss them!!!! People need to get over the comment already, they released some damn good music, better than many artists out there today, and they really need to come back to music!
- i don't feel sorry for them. they never should have made that comment and i'm glad they are gone
- I love them! I never liked Bush in the first place and loved the comment that they were embarrassed to be from the same state as Bush. Big Deal! Thank goodness Bush is no longer in office! Long live the Dixie Chicks!
- They should have kept their big mouths shut. Entertainers should keep their political beliefs separate from their entertaining. People don't go to concerts to listen to politics. Especially when they're talking down our government on foreign soil. I'm glad they're gone, I say good riddance.
- i think the whole thing was stupid, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and i will always love their music, but i think they lose a lot fans, but gained others for the song "not ready to make nice" it was very inspirational to me.
- They are so done. Stick a fork in them. *********************************
- I think they are all extremely talented. I think that if celebrities are going to speak out politically they need to realize that there will be fallout, and that they need to weigh their words carefully before they get into a "dissing" contest with anyone. I think Natalie was extremely unwise in the way she behaved and that the other girls showed her great loyalty. Unfortunately they all paid a very high price for Natalie's opinions and her unwise choice of the location where she chose to voice them. To my mind, Natalie ruined the career of the "Dixie Chicks". It was a career for which Martie and Emily had worked long and hard. The sisters have my respect for standing behind their friend . Sadly, in the same circumstances, I am afraid I would have "thrown her under the bus" rather than allow my career to end due to her immaturity. The music of Martie Maquire and Emily Robison is much better suited to the country genre. Natalie Maines is a great lead singer and she could probably do pop music as easily as she does country, the question is whether or not she/they will be accepted in that genre. We as fans have lost out on untold hours of entertainment and the comfort music gives. Martie Maquire and Emily Robison continue as a class act to support their friend while their career has been irreparably damaged. Natalie must go on living with the consequences of her actions. It is a very sad, lose/lose situation.
- ♥ and miss em!!! I saw them excepting CMAs for Fly and how they looked & dressed totally threw me off and I just blew em off. Til I heard them. I NEVER even bothered listening to "current Country" (cept Alan & George) til I heard Long Time Gone & Tonight The Heartaches On Me. They kept good quality music in Country & they kept it COUNTRY. Traditional, yet new and appealing to everyone. They brought fans over by playing the real deal (not like some other "crossover sensation" today). Fans of them were fans of Country, not like "I love Taylor, but not Country Music" fans. Really tells ya something. They could play anything AND sing anything. Even my grandparents liked em, my Pap was ONLY a fan of Bluegrass & Real Country, and considered them it. It's really a shame what the industry did to them, considering the crap they play that shouldn't be called Country OR music in general. I agreed with them then, and now, but that should have no baring on the Music. Country Music is in bad shape when Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift are played yet the Dixie Chicks & Possum aren't. I'll be saddened and devastated if they never play and record their music, Country Music, again. But I couldn't blame them for not wanting to be associated with this Murder On Music Row thats going on or for not going back after how they were treated. It's all a real travesty, and a shame for people who consider this music apart of their lives. But I'll keep their poster on my wall and music on iPod and hope ♥
