Poultry Incubation Process?

How long from the time a chicken lays do you have before the eggs have to be placed in a incubator?Another words how long can the eggs be stored ?

  1. They shouldn’t be stored over ten days (some say seven) as the fertility begins to drop. Also, Do not wash the eggs, as this takes of the outer protection coat on the egg and causes the egg to be able to drawl in bacteria and other bad things, as eggshells are permeable. If you must clean the egg whip it with some fine sandpaper. Throw away any strange shaped/sized, cracked, or extremely soiled eggs. Try to store eggs around 55-65 degrees F. If to high embryos can start to develop, and if to cold the embryo can die. So try to stick with stable room temperatures if that is what you have available. Do not mark an egg with anything but a lead pencil, as it could seep into the egg. Turn the eggs daily. (Some say leave in cartoon small side down, and if in the cartoon more than three days start to rotate the cartoon, I did this and it worked) Good luck hatching :) if you have any questions feel free to contact me via email, Jamie/Rhode Runner
  2. no more then 3 days don't touch the eggs too much or it will plug the pores in the egg
