Chook Me!

I live in Texas so I need tips on how to build a cool chicken coop?

This last summer it got up to 105 F a few times.

  1. I would paint it white to reflect sunlight, put it in a shaded area if possible, open to the wind and over sized. Insulation helps to keep the heat out during the day but it might be harder to cool off at night. You could wire in an exhaust fan connected to a thermostat.
  2. Ventilation Shade outside Cool water A place to take dust baths
  3. Check out the coops at this site for some ideas of one that you can build.
