Chook Me!

bbq chicken wings still red inside?

I made my daughters some bbq chicken wings, the frozen kind from a box. They had 4 each. When I got their plates back they looked red, like bloody on the inside. I'm really worried that this could hurt them. Please help!! Thanks.

  1. Totally normal. Chicken wings have a lot of veins and things running through them because they are the chicken's extremities. Sometimes this gives the surrounding meat and/or bones a red color - it has nothing to do with it being undercooked. It's not always supposed to be bleached lily white -it's meat! Remember, raw chicken meat isn't "bloody red", it is a transparent pink color - unless the inside looks like that transparent pink color you see when looking at a raw piece of chicken, then it is just normal veins and blood and bones.
  2. You can finish cooking them in the microwave.
  3. Yeah, chicken wings shouldn't be pink, red, or bloody at all. This CAN be a real danger but its not a death sentence. Chances are your kids will be fine, in fact I would bet money on it. However next time make sure you cook them more thoroughly. If your deep frying them it should take about 10Min's for ten separated wings or five-six whole wings. That's if your oil is hot enough. On my stove its the high side of medium. Also corn oil works the best. You'll be able to tell the oil is hot enough when it starts to look shimmery or wavy looking. If your doing them in the oven it will take 20Min's for about 25wings. Make sure you flip them half way.
