Chicken broccoli casserole...?

I just made a chicken and broccoli casserole to cook a little bit later and I forgot to steam the broccoli first. I layered chicken, broccoli, mushroom soup, cheese and bread crumbs. How is it going to turn out? Any cooks out there know? Thanks. It's fresh broccoli florets and they are all under two inch sized pieces. Yes it will be covered. Thank you all for answering!

  1. I make this recipe all the time and just increase my cooking time by 2 minutes to allow the broccoli to cook thoroughly.
  2. Is it fresh broccoli or frozen? chopped or florets? If it's frozen, it will thaw and be fine (in fact, better than if you cooked it first). If it's raw, then it depends on how big the pieces are, but if the casserole will be covered, that should steam the broccoli. It's better if it's al dente, and not mushy, anyways......
  3. it will cook fine, actually precooking tend to make the broc mushy.
  4. It should be fine because of the moisture of the soup. Just cook it however long you cook it, then take it out and try a piece of broccoli. If it's not as soft as you want it, just cook it 2-3 minutes more and try another piece until to your liking. Happy cooking!
  5. Uncooked veges actually work better. If you try to cook longer you'll separate the cheese and turn it into an oily mess.
  6. Even if they were frozen, I wouldn't worry about it. They will be fine!
