Chicken invaders symbols?

what does the lightning bolt mean in thechicken invaders 3 game? Okay...let me clarify...Chicken invaders 3 has this bar at the bottom that displays your bombs, lives and food you eat plus a lighting bolt symbol. it seems to change from level to level and I can't tell what it means or what affects it.
