Is a 60 watt heating lamp enough to keep baby chicks warm?

I just got two new baby chicks and I was wondering if a 60 watt heating light will keep them warm enough? Because they have been chirping a lot and I have them in a room. But also, it seems that every time I go in there and pick them up and sit in there with them, they quiet down. So are they chirping because they're cold/hot? Or because I'm not in there?

  1. Yes it will - if you hang it properly. Go to the link I provided and go to the bottom of the page. The photo shows a light hanging correctly. It is hotter under the center of the light than at the edges. This site is about guinea fowl keets, but the same brooder principals apply to chicks. http://mymilescity.com/guinea/keet-brooder-box.html
