Chook Me!

Where to rent or own temporary baby chicks?

Okay, so I'm thinking of doing a science expirement with my 12 year old nephew (he's really into science(evenat 12!)) and I am doing it on baby chickens and how they develop in eggs and how they hatch. My teacher sdid it with my class when I was in school in the 3rd grade. I heard that you can rent chickens. Since my nephew isn't going to take on hte commitment of owning chickens since he won't be allowed to, I was wondering where you can rent baby chicks or eggs in Massachusetts???? Please help me.

  1. I have never heard of renting chicks. They are very inexpensive to purchase (2-5 dollars), and they require a lot of work, so I don't think anyone would make money renting them out. But, you could probably purchase some chicks or eggs, and then sell the chickens or give them away once you are done with them. Check out the forum at www.backyardchickens.com You may be able to find someone in your area who you can get chicks or eggs from, and, when you are done with the chickens, you will be able to find someone who will give them a good home. Good luck, and I'm glad that you are encouraging your nephew in science!
