Bearded Dragon Opinion?
Hello, I am very interested in animals and since summer is coming up a have nothing to do 'cause I just moved into the boring country, I was thinking about breeding reptiles. I found a proven breeding pair of "German Giant Bearded dragons" for sale with an incubator and was thinking about breeding them. I have a 250 gallon tank for them and 3 30 gallon tanks for the babies. I know I still need to do a lot of research on them but I would like to get aBeardedd dragon owner's opinion.

- There is a lot of investment of money, time and worry when it comes to breeding dragons. Glad to hear that you will do some thorough research. If it's something you're really passionate about and if you are a reasonably intelligent person with good sense, there's nothing wrong with giving it a try. Right off, I will say that it's best for the dragons to live separately and only put them together to "do the deed." You will want 1 tank per 5 babies. 3 - 30 gallons would be alright for them, but keep in mind that a dragon can lay 20 or more eggs per clutch, and lay 2 or 3 clutches per mating. While all the babies won't be born at the same time, they will overlap each other, so you need a multiple tank setup for each clutch, each with its own heat, UVB, thermometers, etc. Then, babies need to eat 3 times a day, up to 50-100 pinhead crickets a day, per baby. That's a WHOLE lot of crickets!! You need to keep the babies until they are 6 weeks old before you sell them, so given a conservative estimate of 50 crix a day per, say 50 babies for 6 weeks = over 100,000 crickets! Also, babies dehydrate easily, so each one needs a bath every day, or at least no longer than every other day. I hope you can see that this will be a very time consuming and costly project. Please continue your research and make an informed and educated decision... Please continue your research at http://www.beardeddragon.org They have a great breeding forum. Best of luck!
