How many chicks can a mourning dove have?

My son and I where sitting on our sun deck, when we saw 2 mourning doves with at least 20 baby chicks running through our neighbor's yard. Is that possible? It was just amazing!! I'm pretty sure they where mourning doves because they where light gray and thats the only gray bird we see. At first I thought they where feasents, but they didn't have the long tail. We don't see feasents here in Nevada where we live.

1. Usually they lay two eggs. Are you sure they were mourning doves? They don't typically run around on the ground; the new fledglings often land on the ground and one or both parent birds will land next to them, presumably to watch for predators. But they don't run around, so far as I've ever observed.
