Chook Me!

What's for supper? . . .?

I'm curious about what's for supper at your house when you have guests. I just had my sister, brother-in-law and they're kids over for supper and a movie. We had grilled-bbq chicken breats, crock-pot bonelss bbq pork country ribs, deviled eggs, potato salad, green beans, turnip greens, hashbrown casserole, Texas-style cheesy bread, and baked beans. I always cook a spread so everyone can have a choice of what they want. This is just what I happened to cook this time. I also do Homemade Lasagna, Roast & Potatoes, etc. for company, and always with the fixings!! So what's for supper at your house when there's guests? Is is something you do-up special for just guests or an "all the time favorite" you serve to just yourself as well as others?

  1. I want to go to your house. Will you adopt me? lol
  2. We have a few different "company" meals, depending on the holiday, the time of year, whether there are kids or not, etc. Hubby loves to man the grill and do bbq ribs and chicken wings (spicy!). I'll do a variety of salads, appetizers and cornbread or muffins, and desserts. We like to do lobsters, either chinese style or stuffed and baked on the grill. I love to do a big crown rib of beef with all the trimmings - mashed potatoes, horseradish sauce, veggies, dinner rolls, salads. I also love doing a huge table of appetizers, and everyone just "picking" and walking around with their plate, filling it over and over again. Goldie
  3. It is so easy and delicious. On top of salmon serving place some of this mixture ( 1/4c light mayo, 1 T. pesto. 1 T. chopped cilantro ) then just cook away. I used a fillet with skin on it so I pan cooked it till skin was crisp and finished it in the oven. I like to oven cook whole asparagus, drizzle with olive oil and liberally sprinkle with thyme...cook at 400 for 15 minutes or until tender crisp. My family loves my grandmothers recipe for jello salad, Take 2 boxes of strawberry jello dissolved in 1 cup boiling water, add 1 container of frozen strawberries ( stir and mash until all dissolved ), mix in 1 can of crushed pineapple and 3 bananas. Pour half of mixture into a serving container and refrigerate until firm ( leave the other 1/2 at room temp so it stays more liquid. When set spread small container of sour cream on top of jello layer . Now pour the remaining jello mixture on top and chill till. You would never know it is sour cream, it is just so good. Add a crusty loaf of bread and dinner is good to go.
