Chook Me!

Should the Roosters first try have been awarded in the grand final?

I believe only two outcomes could have come from the first try awarded to the Roosters in the grand final. Either 1. the ball was lost forward (knocked on) OR 2. the ball was stripped and a penalty try awarded. The final ruling was neither, what was the final ruling? Why? In the field of play I have no doubt that the situation would have resulted in the referee ruling a knock on.

  1. The first two tries weren't tries, but all the rest were.
  2. The same could be said for the Dragons first try! He only went out by half a meter... Our first try was merely a square up, I doubt it would have been awarded if Dragons hadn't scored theirs. Pointless for me to go over it. You know the referees will never change and the two on-field ref set up is now here to stay. What a joke.
  3. i thought it was a knock on, but yeah, the dragons first try shouldnt have been awarded either, so it kind of evened out. it didnt really affect the final score....
  4. No, but then again neither should the Dragons first try have been awarded. No real controversy with the rest of them
  5. After the first Dragon's try was awarded, the refs knew they got it wrong, so they had to try and even the game up. In any other ordinary game, therefs would have awarded knock on.
  6. Just to clear something up. If a player is trying to put the ball down for a try the defending team is allowed to try and strip the ball of the player even if there are two or more players in the tackle. Therefore a penalty try would not be awarded as no indiscretion took place. But to answer your question. I believe that it was a fair try as Jamie Soward tried to kick the ball out of Leilua's hand while he was trying to put the ball down and Anasta had every right to dive on the ball.
  7. I agree with Dogs20TE. Fair Try!
  8. You can tell Soward just chucked his legs out as an afterthought. That's what did the damage and that's the way it goes. Control throughout the play is the same for both parties.
  9. for the rooster players to see that first dragons try was heads down stuff because the roosters knew they dident have much left to give in the gf , it was how much work they had to do just to get there the game vs tigers really took a lot of of the roosters , they pretty much only had 40 good mins in there legs, anyone could see that, was easy for the dragons to runaway with the gf
