tips on faomy breed hen on egypt
Public Comments
- egyptian fayoumis roosters 4.5 pounds hens 3.5 pounds They come in gold or silver penciled. (but if you want to get technical it really isn't a penciled but rather a Campine sort of look with the gold or silver at the neck, and gold or silver with black barring everywhere else) They are good for hot climates (they are from Egypt so that is kind of expected) If you live in a cold place, they may not be a good bird for you. If winters hit freezing temperatures put some oil on their combs/wattles so they don't get chapped. If temperatures get to low you may have to heat them. Hens are good layers of small white eggs. Expect around four a week in their prime. This being said they are super fast maturing birds. Hens start laying at around four and a half months. Roosters tend to crow around five weeks. Hens can go broody, depending on the lines. Many hens need to age a bit (a couple of years) before taking interest in starting a family. Birds are hyper, and love to range. They are economical birds considering feed/egg ratio. However, if considering something commercial, prepare yourself to not do so well. Larger eggs are preferred, and there isn't much meat on these birds. If you want to farm and make profit with these birds I suggest starting up a quality breeding flock. Best wishes, Jamie/Rhoderunner
