Chook Me!

How to cook crockpot chicken?

I bought a whole chicken. I plan on cooking it in the crockpot all day. Do I have to boil it first? I know you are suppose to boil chicken but not sure about crockpot recipes. Thanks

  1. No, you don't boil it first. I don't know who told you that you're supposed to boil chicken, I never do! I either bake it or put it in the crock pot. CROCK POT SALSA CHICKEN Take a whole chicken and put it in the crockpot (take out the bag of giblets first if it's there!). You can also use a turkey breast if it fits; my turkey breast still had the back bones, and I had to chop them off to make it fit. Dump a whole jar of salsa over the top. Whichever kind you like. Let it cook on low all day. By suppertime, it will be so tender it's falling off the bones. When I did it with the turkey breast, I took the meat out of the pot and then put the liquid (no bones or skin) into a saucepan and boiled it to reduce it to make a nice sauce to go with the meat. Shredded chicken + tortillas + fixings = great tacos! Sliced chicken + spanish rice
  2. No, you do not have to boil the chicken first. If you are just wanting to cook the chicken and want it to be a plain chicken... Put the chicken in the crock pot whole, if you want it to be more like an oven roasted chicken you do not add any water. If you want the chicken to be like a boiled chicken with lots of chicken stock...add 2 cups of water to the chicken. If you add the water you will have a wonderful broth full of flavor to use for a soup, noodles or gravy. You can add any spices and vegetables you wish..salt, pepper, onion, garlic, celery, carrots, potatoes....
