Chook Me!

Who would you choose to keep. Continued?

I asked this question about 12 hours ago and Yahoo cut it in half so here are the other horses that got cut out. I have six horses and need to narrow down the herd. Please tell me which of these you would keep and which you would sell. And a ball park for pricing? Thanks. No rude comments. Anna: 12 year old QH mare I got from a newspaper ad a year and a half ago. She was pregnant when I got her. She is a great trail horse. Hardly ever spooks. She gets a two on temperment. She is sweet but no overly sweet if that makes sense. She would prefer to eat than anything else. She used to see me-with a halter and lead- come into the pen she would trot off for a while before she stopped a few feet away and let me catch her, now she just keeps eating. Or comes to me if I have grain. She is a real grass-anything green or brown- grabber and it's a pain because she is really well trained and i don't like having to use a bit on her- also because I'm afaid I might be hard on there mouths, but I'm not sure.) so I use only a halter, and it usually works unless she stops to eat. And I like to ride bareback so grass reins are out of the question. She also doesn't like to go faster. you really have to kick her to get going. Her gaits are the bounciest ever. I rode my friend's horse Star and they thought Star was bouncy. I though he was a cloud compared to Anna. No health problems. Hancock; Doc's Witchdocter, Maverick on pedigree. Palamino roan. 15.4hh You have to go catch her. Zara: 1 year old QH filly. Anna's foal. She gets a three on the temperment. Starbert Champ on pedigree. Last to see you at the gate. She is still nursing and will be a huge girl. Abot three inches shorter than Luna. So maybe 14.3-pony sized at one year!! I have done a little ground work with her. Saddled her, threw tarps over her, bathed her. She is still getting used to the old, noisy clippers on her ears though. Trinket: 4 year old QH filly that I got about two months ago. Well trained, does not spook easily. She is partially blind in her right eye from an accident as a yearling, but it does NOT affect her. She just needs an extra moment to take in her surroundings. A one and a half on the temperment scale. Red-Blood Bay. 15.2hh Two Eyed Jack, Joe Hancock on pedigree. Second to see you at the gate. I haven't cantered her yet, just walk and trot.-it's beeen WAY to muddy in our area. At the trot she has great knee action- Hackney almost- yeah that high. You have to kick her to get her going, but she is more willing than Anna. Also very smoth at walking and trotting. Then the two dogs: Lacey: 4 year old Yellow lab Golden retriever mix I got at the Humane Society three years ago. Loves belly rubs but likes to take off and run for hours also likes to chase trucks- she doesn't bother with cars, just big trucks and semi's- The last time she got out she ran about three miles into town and was spotted by the hospital. Crossing a two highways, railroad, busy streets. yikes. Thinks 'Come back here' means to keep going, but faster. Onyx: about one year old Black lab I picked up in the nearest big town when she was about four months. She was running on a busy road. I left a note at the Humane Society- about a block from where I picked her up at. (I'm thinking an escape artist.) No one replied and there was no 'Lost Dogs' in the paper. I've kept her. She's a good dog, but likes to run as well. But she does come back after about a half an hour. They had been inside dogs until mom kicked them out about 6 months ago. Right now the dogs are in a fenced in area with an old gutted chicken coop. I take them for walks daily, but they don't get to really run-unless the escape. It scares me that they are going to get hit one of these days and I'm not really sure what to do with them. I live less than a quarter mile away from a busy highway and railroad. And the way the property is set up there really isn't a way to make their area any bigger for them. I've alwasy wanted a dog that doesn't need to be tied up or fenced in. One that doesn't take off. One that might bark at someone unknow when they pull in and not lick them to death when they get out. I used to have a dog that was like that but he sadly passed away a few years ago and the replacement... aren't what I'm looking for. But it's hard getting rid of animals because you don't know what kind of homes they might get. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

  1. This is my strategy: What is work for you the hardest, and be successful at whAt we do.... I'm a barrel racer and I know how hard it is to gomthrough and sell horses. But I have to remember that I need to keep The ones that are gonna take me somewhere in life. I love all of our horses and it is always a hard decision.
