what is the difference between poultry dressing and poultry seasoning?

I have a bottle of poultry dressing and the recipe calls for poultry seasoning, and of course supermarket is all sold out, since it is Thanksgiving. Side of bottle of the dressing says ingredients are: Choice spices and herbs. Thank you Chris. Using it for a recipe for herbed butter to add on the turkey as it cooks, so will take your advice and use it, and not add the salt.

  1. seasoning = thyme, sage, marjoram, rosemary, black pepper and nutmeg to my knowledge... dressing = stuffing
  2. If your poultry dressing does not list salt as the first ingredient then that's the main difference. Generally anything labeled as "seasoning" will contain quite a bit of salt in addition to herbs and spices. Go ahead and use your dressing according to the recipe, but be prepared to add some salt at the end. I wouldn't recommend trying to add salt at the beginning when using a substitute ingredient like this; if you put in too much then you can never take it back out, but you can easily add a little extra if you want once your dish is finished.
