Any ideas for Thanksgiving appetizers?
I am cooking a smaller meal this year that will likely consist of a roasted chicken, wild rice pilaf, corn on the cob, asparagus with hollandaise sauce or string bean casserole, steamed baby carrots with butter and ginger, tossed salad, and yeast rolls. The menu is not set in stone yet, but that is the current plan. We normally do not have appetizers for Thanksgiving, but I would like to serve something to tide people over until dinner is ready this year. The only thing that really comes to mind is stuffed mushrooms. Anyone have any other good ideas for a Thanksgiving appetizer? Thanks!

- Fresh raw veggies and dill dip is what we normally have to tie us over until dinner. We stuff most of the celery...half butter mixed with half blue cheese, then sprinkled with paprika for color as much as flavor.
- You probably don't want to do a lot of cooking for the appetizer if you are working on dinner, so I would serve some fruit, nice cheese and crackers with wine. lately, I am really enjoying cream cheese with pepper jelly poured over it, spread over crackers. Mmmmm.
- I just came across this and I think it would be perfect for you. Eggs:- Crabby (by Dune 1/11/10) 12 Eggs, hard boiled 1 Can crab meat (drained) ¼ Cup mayonnaise 2T Pickle relish 1T Prepared mustard 2t Seafood seasoning ¼t pepper Slice eggs in half lengthwise. Remove yolks and set the whites aside. In a small bowl, mash yolks with a fork. Add crab, mayonnaise, relish, mustard, seafood seasoning and pepper; mix well. Stuff or pipe into egg whites. Refrigerate until serving. Yield: 2 dozen.
- a perennial favourite is Deviled Eggs, v. easy to make and they go down a treat..! Boil a dozen eggs carefully on not too high a heat so that they don't crack open. Boil less if there's less people. Once they are hard boiled, quickly soak them in cold water. That way they peel very easy. Peel them carefully and cut them all in half. Ease the yellow yolks out with a teaspoon into a medium sized bowl. Line up the whites on a nice round tray. Now add mayonnaise, a squidge of anchovy paste, some cream of horseradish (just a tablespoon) and chop up a pickled cucumber very finely diced.***** Mix all this up and taste. Add salt n pepper. Taste again. Now fill the whites with a teaspoon. Finally, put some mild red paprika into a stainer and top some over each egg for decoration. Yummy..! *** you can play with the taste and replace anchovy paste with Worcester Sauce, spoonful of chutney or Gentleman's Relish, whatever.
- Some ideas for you: Cheese and crackers Deviled eggs Celery stuffed with cream cheese Chips and salsa
- Chicken liver and mushroom pate served on crostini and some sweet gherkins w/cheese.
- Marinated olives, marinated mushrooms, or butternut squash soup. The soup is especially delicious if you add a few toasted salted seeds to the middle of each bowl.
- Sausage cheese balls are always a hit at our house for any get together. 1 lb Jimmy Dean or Bob Evans sausage 2.5 cups shredded cheese (whatever you fancy) 2 cups biscuit mix like Bisquick or Jiffy 1/2 cup of water 1 tsp baking powder Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients by hand and roll into 1 inch balls. bake on cookie sheet about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm and watch them disappear
- >>>A lot of these sound great and if you have time that's even better !. If your busy you can get the frozen appetizers and pop them in the oven. The huge stores that sell things in bulk have great appetizers to choose from. They are really easy, and that way you can put more time into your dinner !! Happy eating !! <<<<<<
