Chook Me!

How big does a chicken coop need to be for 20 chickens?

Okay. Im trying to make a plan for a free roam chicken coop for a neighbor near my school. he wants 10-12 layers, 10 broilers, he wants it off the ground, and he wants predator control. the smaller the better. and hes planning on getting 20 chickens. so i was thinking maybe an 8x8 or 10x10. does anyone have any suggestions or websites i could check out for free plans? if someone could help me out i would deeply appreciate it. oh and i know you can buy them but my horticulture class is planning on building it and im in charge of the plan... but im stuck. so yaa i need help. thanx

  1. Chicken man to the rescue!!! Rule of thumb is about 2-3 square feet per chicken inside the henhouse and 4-5 sq/ft per chicken in an outside run. See link for more info and lots of plans to build coops.
