Chook Me!

Country music fans - How many of you who boycotted the Dixie Chicks have gone back to listening to them?

I'm a blues and jazz kinda guy so I don't have a good feel for if the Chicks have been widely forgiven or not. Do you require that the artists you listen to share your political views? Fletch, I don't think they have had a truly new release in the past 4-5 years but I see they had a couple greatest hits collections out recently, I really mean, will you listen to any of their back catalog?

Public Comments

  1. They're still making records?
  2. I have never owned a cd by the chicks, whenever they are played on radio i turn it off or play music i actually like. I liked Elvis's political views, he kept them to himself.
  3. ......Did not listen to them before the boycott and don't plan on listening to them now.
  4. I'm 15 years old now, so I didn't really know what was going on when it happened (I obviously understand now). I honestly think that people are ridiculous. It was just a statement, what's the big deal? She didn't say she was going to go attack Bush, she pretty much just said she didn't like him. Anyway, the Dixie Chicks are my favorite artists ever!!!
  5. Just what was so unpatriotic or bad about what Natalie Maines said. She was voicing her opinion on a topic that she has every right to speak out against. If bad mouthing or dissing a sitting President was illegal then 80% of the population would be in jail.Boycott them because you don't like their music or the way they look but don't penalize them for speaking their minds.
  6. I don't care if they share my views or not, I don't know most artists views. Sure I like Charlie Daniels and I agree with a lot of his views, but ask me most artists views and I'd say I have no idea. I never listened to the Dixie Chicks so I couldn't go back to listening to them. The radio blackout WAS ending until her feud with Toby Keith and trying to get the last word after Toby admitted to how childish he was being and her wearing the F.U.T.K. shirt to a concert where the song was going to be broadcast live on the award show. I mean when you consider her running down the fans and her childish behavior it's no surprise that she was never widely accepted back. Add: and a lot of people STILL miss the point. The Boycott was because they said it ON FOREIGN SOIL. They are goodwill ambassadors of this nation. Imagine if the Beatles had come to the US and run down the Queen, people wouldn't likely say so what about that. No they weren't as big as the Beatles, but the point is in WHERE it was done. Also what is really missed was her psuedo-apology afterwards. Oh she just got caught up in the anti-American views and didn't mean it.
  7. i love the dixie chicks i grew up on listeing to them and honestly i am not even a political person at all and i hear people saying they hate bush all the time so it doesnt really matter 2 me
  8. i dont see why political views should be reason why/why not to listen to a singer's/group's music. if i had that kind of attitude i would have almost no friends because most of them trust the law. everyone has their own views, and i listen to the dixie chick's/court yard hounds music
  9. No,I don't expect artists I listen to to share my political views. If I did,I would have a very small music library.Outside of country,I'm a fan of a little bit of everything and like a lot of folk and rock. Most of those artists are on the left side of me.For me,there's a difference between being on the other side of the fence and being borderline un-American. It's hard to support people like the Hugo Chavez loving Bruce Springsteen,or someone like John Mellencamp who once said "Who cares we got bombed on 9-11? Let em bomb us!" OR someone like folk singer Todd Snider who has a song about Bush stealing 2 elections and orchestrated 9-11..lol, REALLY?? Or James McMurtry who I also used to like until he came out with Bush-Cheny "war criminal-war mongering" songs (of course no anti war songs about Obama who's in THREE wars now). For me,it's just plum embarrassing to support ANY artist that STUPID! With the chicks,as others pointed out it was the location of where the comments took place. Not cool, and you don't do that.AND it was far more than those comments, they started crap with Toby and Reba and even slammed country fans by calling them ignorant redneck hicks. They simply would not SHUT UP!! So how can anyone feel sorry for them? They made their beds and have been lying in them for many years now.And lets not forget their half-hearted apology they made only to turn around and take that apology back in the song "Not Ready To Make Nice"..Sure was fun for them to be praised by liberal Hollywood at the time, but what have they done for those chicks latley?! ha,..NOTHING! As far as listening to them,I never really did care for them too much,my wife still listens to them occasionly so I get stuck with them sometimes, but I could really give a flip.Nothing worse than anything else that gets blared in my house!
  10. I don't give a damn about their political views either way, or should I say, It doesn't bother me who they do or don't support. Going on foreign land and bashing your president at a time of war, is like bashing a family member to strangers, when their going through difficult times imo.I was a fan of their music long before this incident and they have a right to free speech, it was just the place they chose to use it that doesn't seem right to me.I could care less about their feud with TK since he he did more than his share of publicly bashing ''The Dixie Chicks''at every single chance he got and laughing as he spoke about it. He played a hugh part in keeping this feud going, how American is it of him to put a picture (fake) of Natalie Maines sitting on Saddam Hussein's lap and giving it to the media, at a time of war?I have all their CDs because I love their music, and was totally hooked on it before I knew about them bashing hillbilly music! To be honest, this is what bothered me more than anything, since I love hillbilly music and this is what ''Country Music'' originated from, not to mention all of my family are from the hillbilly state of Kentucky, so this does put a damper on things now when I try to listen to their music. If they don't appreciate the roots of country music, they shouldn't have been singing it in the fist place. As you can see it wasn't ''all'' about their political views, it was several things combined.
  11. Personally, I never cared about their political views, i was actually quite shocked at the response they got for their comments about George Bush. However, after their comment about Reba And Toby Keith fans, the few Dixie Chick albums i owned were disposed off !
