Chook Me!

My chicken incubator's temperature was at 102 degrees right before I went to sleep, when I woke up it dropped?

it went down to 92 degrees, is that really bad? did it kill them? plus earlier that day before night approached, the eggs sometimes went up to 106 degrees maybe.. somewhere over 103, did it really kill them you think? or there's a chance they are okay? second question about incubation too: how bad is the success rate in trying to incubate your own chicken eggs?

  1. Have you candled your eggs to see which are developing? This would also allow to see if the temp flucutations have affected them. Overheating is worse than underheating. The temp should stay between 99 - 101 degrees. Try covering your incubator with a towel or blanket to keep a more even temp. The success rate of incubation depends on a number of factors, including temperature, humidity and how good the eggs are. I've had a 95% hatch and a 20% hatch. Good luck.
