Chook Me!

URGENT: My Chow recently ate a couple of hot chicken wings. I am worried beyond belief for the life of my dog.?

I have notified my parents and they haven't taken any precautions... Will my dog be okay...? It ate the bones.

  1. your dog will be fine. my dog did the same. dont worry your dog will be fine. its just food.
  2. Unless your dog has any specific allergies after being inbred for years to become a chow, it will have no more problems eating a couple of hot chicken wings than any other dog - i.e. none for any healthy dog.. Maybe a little tummy upset but nothing serious
  3. You can't really tell. If you would like to, you could take him/her to the vet, but I would recommend just waiting a few days. If he/she seems like he/she is in pain, then take him/her to the vet. This has happened with my dog before and he made it through! Don't worry about it unless he seems like he is in pain. There really are no precautions... if it rips his intestines it's not like you could have saved him. He has already eaten the bones! I'm sure your dog will be okay!! Best of luck! (;
  4. your dog will be ok. it may burn coming out but wont damage him. If your really worried you can give him pepto-bismol
  5. well i wouldn't be as worried about the hot part as much as the wing part. did the dog eat the bones? If so it could cause problems. but my cat ate chicken bones and the vet said he was fine.
  6. Chows have big strong jaws and probably ground up the bones sufficiently. It is not recommended to feed dogs chicken bones, and try not to do it again. But the big, strong jawed breeds have less trouble. I used to own two shar pei (basicaly short haired chows in a lot of ways) and they ate a lot of things they were not supposed to and I never had a problem. One lived to be 12- the other to age 14. Just watch the dog and don't worry unless he seems in pain or vomits.
