- There are many ways to make a coop, most of them not all that expensive. I had a friend in Phoenix, AZ that had 2 chickens in their back yard and it was only about 1.5X taller than the chickens themselves. They had to keep it low to the ground so that neighbors didn't complain. It must have been about 6 feet by 4 feet by 2 feet tall. They made a "Frame" with chicken wire: Two 6 feet by 2 feet. Two 4 feet by 2 feet. One 4 feet by 2 feet. One 4 feet by 4 feet. They took the "One 4 feet by 2 feet. One 4 feet by 4 feet." and used a hinge to connect it so that they used the 4x4 as a "Lid" to have access to the inside. They put a Nesting Box in the 4x2 section. They kept the chickens wings clipped just to make 100% sure they didn't get over the wall and would rake out the coop once a week to make sure it was kept super clean. They lived in a Suburb so had to make damn sure no one complained about smell.
